BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². For example, 60 kg at 1.68 m gives a BMI of about 21.3.
Indian guidelines treat 18.5 to 22.9 as normal, 23 to 24.9 as overweight and 25 or above as obese. These limits are lower than WHO’s because Indians face higher risk of diabetes and heart disease at lower BMIs.
BMI is only a first estimate. It cannot tell muscle from fat, and it does not give a true picture for children, pregnant women, older people or athletes. A doctor can assess your health properly.
